On the Fifth Anniversary of St. Benedict Catholic Church Today we celebrate the fifth anniversary of the creation of St. Benedict Parish. On this occasion, it is good that we pause and reflect on the beginning of the faith journey of our patron saint, St. Benedict: Born in the year 480 AD, Benedict was the son of Roman nobility. But, as a young man he rejected the immorality of culture of his time and left home to devote himself to God’s will. For three years he lived in solitude, in a cave near Subiaco, southeast of Rome. This was a time of prayer and meditation that allow him to mature in mind and character, and gave him a clear understanding of himself and his fellow man. His deep faith and wisdom drew many to him, and it was from that beginning that he went on to found an abbey and a religious order of monks from which Christianity was nurtured and strengthened throughout all of Europe. These first five years in the history of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Falcon, Colorado, can be likened to Benedict’s years in Subiaco. We have grown from a small Catholic faith community into a quasi parish through the work of the people, the body of Christ. We have grown in grace and wisdom, realizing our responsibilities as Church; to make the Sacraments available, to teach our children, and those seeking Christ, the living word of God, and to reach out and help and serve those in need. We have looked within ourselves and made the commitment to establish a real and lasting Catholic presence here in the Falcon area. These first few years have not been idle. 2005 and 2006 saw a time of leadership growing up from within our community, and the initial efforts to organize ministries and programs. From the parish wide Discovery Survey and Strategic Planning efforts of 2007 our vision and goals became clear. The donation of property on Judge Orr Road at the end of 2007 marked the beginning of our internal needs assessment and concept planning for the facilities we need for our immediate future. Again, it was the work by dozens of involved parishioners that resulted in the concept plans for a multipurpose building, with dedicated worship space, that we will now use as the basis of our formal construction planning. In spite of the 2009 down-turn in the economy that slowed our efforts, we have evidence all around us of how parishes of committed parishioners can embark on capital campaigns and construction projects. St. Patrick’s, St. Gabriel’s, and Holy Apostles went to their people with clearly defined needs, and the response was in excess of their goals. As Fr. Paul told us last week, the pledges of the parishioners of Holy Apostles have not only surpassed their goal; the leadership and the people of the parish support the giving of 7.5% of their campaign to St. Benedict. On this our fifth birthday, we are called to pray in thanksgiving for God’s abundant blessings on our little faith family. Likewise, let us pray for ourselves - that we may continue to respond in appreciation to God in Christ Jesus by our renewed commitment and dedication to the growth and success of St. Benedict Catholic Church. May we do all that we are called to do and give in the coming months and years as St. Benedict did, for the greater glory of God. Deacon Lynn |

Worth Thinking About — here is a difference between blarney and boloney. Blarney is the varnished truth; boloney is the unvarnished lie. Blarney is flattery laid on so thin you love it; boloney is flattery laid on so thick you hate it. |

It’s Free! It’s Easy! It’s Important to Our Future — The future of our growing faith community depends on two factors. First, the number of families and individuals served by St. Benedict Parish. Second, how effective we are in meeting the spiritual and religious needs of our community. The only way we can appreciate the first factor is with an accurate, up to date registration roster. The only way we can make decisions now and plan for the future is by using the accurate, up to day registration roster.
Knowing the number of faithful is important for many reasons; everything from the ordering of hosts for use during Mass, to planning children’s religious education classes and adult spiritual development programs. Someday, in the not too distant future, our current registration roster will help us decide how many pews we will need in our own dedicated worship space.
Another important reason for a complete listing of registered parishioners, with contact information, is that it gives us a means to reach out and keep everyone advised of what is going on in the parish. It also lets us find out what you need and expect from St. Benedict Catholic Church. |
